The Purpose of Athletics at Holy Trinity

The purpose of Holy Trinity's athletic programs are directly tied to the mission of the Diocese of Cleveland CYO. Our programs focus on the total development of each participant in order to positively influence the formation of Christian ideals.

We espouse the values of respect, discipline, and commitment that are necessary to foster true competition and good sportsmanship on the field and court - and promote Catholic ideals within our parish and throughout the community.

We believe that every individual brings unique gifts and talents to each sport they play, and that those gifts and talents should be recognized and shared for the greater good of the team. We also believe that each individual should be given every opportunity to develop those gifts and talents further. Through coaching and encouragement each athlete should learn the fundamental skills specific to the sport they choose as well as their value and responsibility to their team, Church, and community.

Athletic Programs Offered

Holy Trinity is a member of the Diocese of Cleveland CYO and offers a variety of CYO sports across 3 different seasons.

Tackle football, girls volleyball, cross-country, and cheerleading are offered in the Fall.  Registration for all Fall sports occurs during the preceeding month of May.

Boys basketball, girls basketball, and cheerleading are offered in the Winter. Registration for all Winter sports occurs during the month of September.

Baseball and Track & Field are offered in the Spring.  Registration for all Spring sports takes place from the middle of January through the middle of February.

General Participation

Students of Holy Trinity School or the Holy Trinity PSR program are automatically eligible to participate in CYO-sanctioned sports. Students are required to participate on a team at their respective parish or parish school and are not permitted to play on a team at another parish without written approval (in the form of a completed and signed ERF) from the Cleveland CYO Athletic office.

All participants are required to have a valid Preparticipation Exam and Emergency Medical Authorization form on file before they are permitted to participate in any activity - including practices, scrimmages, or games. Forms are valid for 13 months from the date of the physical exam.

For some sports, participants on CYO teams are prohibited from playing on any other teams - including rec, travel, or interscholastic teams - in that same sport for that same season.  With questions about the eligibilty requirements for a particular sport, contact the Athletic Director or the Commissioner for that sport.

If you are interested in coaching a particular sport, contact the commissioner of that sport and let them know of your interest.

Interested coaches must understand the role and responsibilities of a CYO coach and agree to adhere to the HTAA Coaches Code of Ethics and Conduct.

All coaches must also fill out a Holy Trinity Coaches Application form and must be approved by the Holy Trinity Athletic Association prior to each season. They must also attend the CYO Coaches Certification Program, complete the required VIRTUS training, and complete the NFHS Course on Concussion in Sports (for more information on the Ohio Return to Play Law and CYO compliance, click here).
